WHO WE ARE
WA Families for Freedom is a group of parents, teachers, students and community members working to stand up for every student’s right to fair, safe, and equal schools.
In 2025, we are standing up against two harmful ballot measures that could take away student privacy and safety. These measures, pushed by a conservative millionaire and his political groups, would take away protections for all students and prevent transgender students from playing sports with their friends.
Washington Families believe in equality. Our laws have worked for 20 years, and we intend to keep our kids safe.
OUR MISSION:
We’re building a statewide group of parents, teachers, students and community members to protect the fairness, privacy, and freedom that every student needs to succeed.
Our goal is simple: Keep Washington schools open, safe, and fair for every child, transgender or not. We believe in schools built on respect, inclusion, and equal chances for all.
Together, we can reject the political fear mongering used to divide us.
Our Coalition:
Washington Families for Freedom is led by many community groups and people. Our leadership includes:

- And more than 100 families, educators, faith leaders, and organizations across the state
Together, we are working to uphold Washington’s belief in treating everyone fairly—and to ensure that schools remain places where all students can learn, grow, and thrive together.

We believe every child—no matter who they are—should be free to be themselves, learn and grow, and feel safe at school.
Our schools should be fair, respectful, and give every student their best chance to succeed. All students should be treated kindly, have their privacy protected, and be free from unfair treatment at school or in youth sports. No group should be singled out for exclusion or discrimination in schools because of who they are, what they believe, or how they look.
Washington has a strong history of supporting equal rights. Our current anti-discrimination laws have worked for almost 20 years. For more than 15 years, they’ve ensured that every student, no matter their gender, can play school sports and take part in school activities. These rules help build schools where all kids can learn safely, play together, and build their confidence.

Our Campaign in 2025
This year, two harmful ballot measures seek to roll back that progress. One would reinstate invasive, divisive policies that threaten student privacy and force schools to violate their students’ privacy and trust.
The other would stop transgender girls from playing girls’ sports—ignoring years of successful, inclusive policy in Washington schools. As Washingtonians, we know that LGBTQ people are not a threat to our safety and freedom – but political attacks by politicians and millionaires that single out a small group of children for discrimination and harassment is a threat to all of us.
These measures are not about fairness. They seek to use fear to divide us. And they put every one of our students at risk.
